What Will You Do on Father’s Day?!
Tomorrow, the nation will observe Father’s Day – a time where sons and daughters lavish dear old dad with greeting cards, gift cards, ties, breakfast in bed, dinner and lots of hugs and kisses. So how do you, the “Solo Mommy”, handle this day when your children’s father is not around?
The first thing that you don’t do is try to hide this day of celebration. Children are well aware that June 16th is Father’s Day and that it’s fast approaching. If they are in elementary school, for example, they probably worked on a project of making a card or craft. On top of that, TV ads and articles in newspapers and magazines about the celebration are in full swing. So, they can’t get around it and neither can you.
The responsible thing to do is to just let the day play out and be there for your children if they ask questions. If there is a special male figure in their life, you all can collectively work on a card or take him out for breakfast, brunch or dinner in recognition of being a positive male person in their life.
So remember, there’s no need to feel sad, disregard the day or complain about it. I encourage you to celebrate a dad who you know who is there for his children and keep the ones in prayer who have selected to be absent. And last, remember that Our Heavenly Father, God, loves us with an unshakable agape love and has our solo mommy families covered.
Until the next time I write... I'm just living the solo mommy life.
Love you!
