Single Moms: Come Party on the Pier

There are plenty of parties taking place this summer – from lavish boat rides to color-themed shindigs. However, finding the perfect party to suit your desired entertainment experience is what really makes the difference. After all, you want to party with a purpose. And, if your purpose is to jam to old school sounds performed live, accompanied by clean comedy in a picturesque setting, you’ll want to join Maxwell Entertainment at their 2nd Annual Party on the Pier, Saturday, August 11, 2007, from 10:30 p.m. to 4 a.m in Manhattan, NY.

D Train, noted for 80s and 90s hits, including “You’re the One For Me,” “Keep On,” “Something’s On Your Mind,” and “Walk on By,” will be the featured performer at The Chelsea Brewing Company at Pier 59. Talent from the Wake-Up Club on 98.7 Kiss FM will be delivering stand-up comedy as legendary and revered tri-state area dj Tommie Allen, also of 98.7 Kiss FM, spins the turntables all night long.

“Party on the Pier gives older party adults another alternative to summer fun,” insists Wayne Maxwell, CEO of Maxwell Entertainment. “It’s a beautiful experience for those 30 and up.”

Joshua Thomas enjoyed himself at last year’s party on the pier and plans to attend the event next month. “At my age, it’s hard to find a place where you know you’re going to find a mature crowd,” says Thomas, 51. “Sometimes, when you go to places, you don’t know who’s going to be there.”

In addition to the great selection of live performances and the people in attendance, Smith appreciates the ambiance and the space that the venue offers. “You can go inside and out,” he explains. “It really adds to the [experience].”

Don’t miss out on your opportunity to mingle with like-minded, mature party-goers. Tickets are $35 in advance (more at the door) and are available for purchase at www.maxwellentertainment.net or by calling 718-208-8563. Media: To schedule interviews, please call (718) 425-9092.

About Maxwell Entertainment: Since May 2004, Wayne Maxwell, CEO of Maxwell Entertainment – who has 20 years of experience with party promotions -- has answered the call of the older urban professional looking to unwind from a week full of demands, deadlines, and stresses while also indulging in stimulating conversation, and feasting on delicious dining by offering “After Work Fridays” at the luxurious Vudu Lounge in Manhattan, NY. In addition to creating a relaxing environment for his guests, Wayne prides his Friday night event with offering a mixture of music from reggae tone to Latin to hip hop. An emphasis is placed on old school music. D Train, Skyy, Colonial Abrams, Fonda Rae, Melba Moore, Force MDs, Howard Hewett, and Johnny Kemp have been among old school artists to perform live. There is a free buffet from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. that consists of soul food and Italian cuisine on different evenings, as well as 2-for-1 drinks.

Give Your Son the Gift of a Positve Male Role Model

Dear Single-Mom Sisters,

It's a shame to say, but my son's father is not ready to assume his responsibility as a man and be the most influential male role model in Isaac's life. I am a super-loving mom and I do my very best to teach Isaac how to be a honest, loving, respectable, and productive young man. However, I am not a man and there are obvious things that are best suited for a man to teach a "soon-to-be-one-day" man. Thankfully, my son has positive male role models in his life, including my best friend, Matthew Scott, and Wayne Winston, CEO of NSP Youth, Inc. Additionally, I have Isaac enrolled in sports programs run by positive men. Through these asociations and friendships, Isaac is able to see what being a "real" man is all about.

While it may hurt you that your son's father isn't in his life, you've got a man to raise and there is no time to waste. Consider the positive men in your life and ask them to help mentor your son. As an additional resource, look into male mentoring or big brother programs in your area (just make sure you conduct a thorough screening first) . Your son deserves to be positively influenced by a man. If his own father won't do it, believe me, there is a positive male rodel model out there who will.

Stay strong, single moms sisters!

Sincerely,

Feona Sharhran Huff

Family Fun at Tomahawk Lake Waterpark

Today, me, Clara, and Isaac (who's a student at CDSC Head Start) attended his school's end-of-the-year trip to Tomahawk Lake Waterpark (http://www.tomahawklake.com) in Sparta, NJ. The 55-year-old man-made lake is inclusive of waterslides, large blow-up toys, boat rides, and a picnic area. When we arrived by luxury coach after only an hour and a half journey, we were ready to experience all that the day of family fun promised to offer.

Although Clara and Isaac (pictured left) patiently waited for the hamburgers, hotdogs, and barbeque chicken to be grilled, they were in a hurry to suit up in their swimming gear. The next thing I know, I'm knee deep in water with Isaac in my arms and Clara dog-paddling alongside us. Isaac's classmates, parents, teachers, and staff were also splish-splashing away as the sun beamed down on us -- making the cold water bearable:-)

After some time in el agua (Note: Isaac attends a bi-lingual school and is learning to speak Spanish -- muy bien!), we headed back to the picnic area and we got busy with the food. The men grilled (Note: A well-deserved thank-you must go out to Mr. Harrison -- the husband of the school's director, Miranda Harrison -- Teacher Lateefah's husband, and family worker Pam's husband). Isaac was completely content with his favorite (hot dogs). Clara and I ate cheeseburgers. It was mmm mmm good!

Once we left our tummies digest all that great food, we headed back to the lake. Clara continued on her water-playing excursion. Isaac opted to make castles in the sand. I, on the otherhand, took the opportunity to catch a nap (okay, two!) under the sun. Time flew by fast. Too fast. By the time I woke up (oh, and I had sand on my face, head, and legs -- thanks Isaac!), the team leaders were calling for us to pack up our stuff and head back to our meet-up spot.

It was such a beautiful day and I'm glad that my schedule permitted me to experience Tomahawk Lake Waterpark. Thank you Mervin for what you did! My children had a blast and we got in more bonding time. We took lots of photos and I became acquainted with a getaway spot that the family will be visiting next summer. Stay tuned for my next blog entry here. Oh, and visit my other blogs:
